Germany to install 2.8GW in 2014: EuPD Research - SolarStar

Germany will install 2.8GW of new PV capacity  in 2014, according to a new report by EuPD Research.

According to EuPD there could be a year-on-year increase in systems under 10kW in size while the 73% decline in systems over 1MW is likely to continue in 2014.

In 2012 Germany added 7.6GW and was expected to connect just 3.9GW in 2013. According to official figures released by the federal network authority, Bundesnetzagentur, just 3.3GW was installed last year.

The even less optimistic outlook for next year would still exceed the2.5GW cap proposed by the new government.

The founders of developer juwi, Fred Jung and Matthias Willenbacher, said the caps on PV and onshore wind would have repercussions beyond their respective sectors.

"The actions outlined in the draft plans to reform the Renewable Energies Act (EEG) are a death knellfor the energy transition as a whole," they said in a statement.

Other changes include a charge for self-consumption that the country’s BDI business lobby said could cost 900,000 jobs through increasing the cost of energy.
