US energy provider SolarCity has installed PV systems  with a total capacity of 2.3MW at all 19 district schools and a district support centre which make up the Murrieta Valley Unified School District in California.
All the PV systems were designed and installed by SolarCity and comprise more than 10,000 PV modules  mounted atop carports at the schools’ vehicle parking areas. SolarCity is providing a 25-year performance guarantee as well as maintenance services for 25 years.
Currently, the school district spends around US$3.2 million on electricity every year. The solar project is expected to help the district to save around US$1 million every year in the first five years. Over the next 25 years, the solar installations are projected to help save the district US$23 million in utility costs.
“The District is showing its students, faculty, and community members how to use California’s most abundant natural resource to address financial and environmental challenges, by applying modern technology to earth sciences,” said Jeff Palmer, SolarCity Project Development Manager.
Following this latest installation, SolarCity is now providing energy services to more than 300 schools and universities in the US.
